On behalf of the IUGA Board, the Program Committee, and the Local Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 45th Annual Meeting, September 2-5, 2020, at the Wold Forum in The Hague, the political capital of The Netherlands, only 20 minutes away by train from Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Centre.
The IUGA Annual Meeting is a flagship meeting for urogynecologists worldwide and represents one of the largest gatherings of practitioners, researchers and industry professionals in the field. This year’s meeting is no exception and brings together more than 2,000 delegates from around the world to discuss the latest advances in this vibrant and constantly evolving field.
In 1997 IUGA Past Presidents Harry Vervest and Hans van Geelen, with Mark Vierhout and Cees ten Hoope, brought the IUGA Annual Meeting to The Netherlands for the first time. This meeting was held in Amsterdam and became famous as Ulf Ulmsten presented the tension-free vaginal tape, which is without doubt one of the greatest innovations in our field ever.
Innovations are crucial to moving our field forward. Tomorrow’s solutions are brought forth by inspired physicians and researchers for the benefit of our future patients.
For this reason the Program Committee chose thetheme: “Innovation in the Era of Collaboration” for this year’s meeting. We will offer you a scientific program that is filled with innovative speakers, innovative insights on our way of working and innovative ideas of realizing our ambitions.
The Hague is a seaside metropolis with royal style. It is known as the city of peace and justice, and is home to the royal family and the seat of Dutch government. This charming city with a historical inner city will make you feel at home from the beginning. The meeting venue, World Forum, was officially opened in 1969 and designed by architect Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud in the style of Dutch functionalism, which was ultramodern in the 1960s.
The venue became extremely well known internationally through the organization of the North Sea Jazz Festival from 1976 through 2005. Artists such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and Candy Dulfer performed at the venue. Other leading world figures including Neil Armstrong, Kofi Annan, Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have also spoken at large top-level international conferences held at World Forum.
We have a great social program organized for you in The Hague, including a beach party in Scheveningen which you do not want to miss.
It is our great privilege as the IUGA 2020 chair and co-chair to invite you to attend the meeting in the hope that you find it stimulating, inspiring and enjoyable.
