• The official language of the meeting is English.

  All sessions and workshops will be conducted in English; simultaneous interpretation services will be provided for non-English presentations. Additional details will be available in the weeks and months leading up to the meeting.

       The dress code for the meeting is business casual.

  Registration for the 51st Annual Meeting will open in early 2026. 

• What does the registration fee cover?

  The registration fee covers your participation in the event itself. However, please note that registration for workshops, the FIUGA Fun Run, and annual meeting dinner requires a separate registration. In addition to the event registration, IUGA is collaborating with other organizations to offer additional services. It's important to highlight that you are responsible for arranging your visa, hotel accommodation, plane ticket, airport pick-up, and any other travel-related expenses.

We are thrilled to announce that the 51st IUGA Annual Meeting will take place in Rio de Janeiro! Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil and one of the most famous in the world. It is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and lively carnival. The meeting will take place in June, which is consider winter in Brazil so expect cool and dry weather! When you are not attending the meeting, take advantage of the local beaches, restaurants, cafes, and more! Rio de Janeiro has plenty to offer, we hope you enjoy it!

As with all travel, it is important to take certain precautions to ensure the safety of yourself and your belongings.

• Do I need a visa to travel to Brazil for the meeting, and how can I obtain one?

  Depending on your nationality, you may need to apply for a Visa to visit Brazil. 

  • Citizens of most European countries — including all EU member states — currently do not need a visa to visit Brazil for short trips (tourism, business, visiting).

  • Citizens of United States, Canada and Australia are required to obtain a visa (often an electronic visa, “e-Visa”) before traveling to Brazil.
  • Citizens of many countries in the Americas (South & Central), parts of Asia, and a few in Africa or Oceania are also exempt.

  Yes, we have partnered with hotels for you to experience convenience and comfort during the IUGA Annual Meeting. We will provide additional details including booking links in early 2026. 

Participants are strongly advised to arrange their own travel, health, and cancellation insurance in the unfortunate case of having to cancel the meeting participation and/or travel and/or hotel accommodation because of illness or other (personal) circumstances. Neither IUGA, the IUGA Board, Status Plus, the Local Organizing Committee, nor any of their officers, agents, employees, or representatives assume any liability whatsoever.

There are two main airports in Rio de Janeiro. 

• Galeão International Airport (GIG) 
• Santos Dumont Airport (SDU)

June is technically the start of winter in Rio de Janeiro however the temperatures are quite mild with occasional rain.

In Brazil, tipping is not as obligatory or high-pressure as in the U.S. Most service industries include standard service fees, and voluntary tipping is not common practice. In most cases, if a local person finds the service to be exceptionally good, they will tip an additional amount on top of the standard fees. This is typically 10% of the total bill.

If you wish to take a taxi, we recommend you enlist the help of your hotel's front desk staff. If you are out in the city, you will be able to flag down a taxi quite easily, with their visible yellow color. They operate on a taxi meter. 

Car service apps, such as Uber, operate in Rio de Janeiro. The local car service app in Rio de Janeiro is titled ''99'' and can be downloaded in the app store on your phone. 

Rio de Janeiro has a visible police presence in the main tourist areas and a specialized service to assist foreign visitors.

• The Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro has a battalion, BPTur, which patroll the city of Rio de Janeiro and can assist with civilian concerns. They are often found in popular tourist destinations such as beaches and hotels.

As with all international visits, you will find that the country you are visiting may have different buisness hours than in your home country. In Rio de Janeiro, it can vary depending on the business however the following are the typical business hours:

• Most banks are open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM BRT.
• Most shops are open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM BRT. 
• Most shopping malls are open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM BRT. 
• Supermarkets are open Monday-Sunday from approximately 7-8:00 AM to 10-11:00PM BRT. 
• Most bars and restaurants are open ever day.

• The electrical current in Rio de Janeiro is 110 or 120 volts.
• The outlets are type N, with three round pins.
• A universal adaptor is recommended for charging phones, laptops, tablets, etc. 
• Some hotels may have alternative outlets for 220 volts.
